Kind of new to this, I blog pretty much for fun, not money..(wouldn't mind making a few buck a month though) ..but would like to attract more visitors. Any ideas for a newbie would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Wine Insider Wine Reviews

Re: Text Link Ads

I do understand the facts; in this case I'm just interpreting them differently and coming to different conclusions than you are.

I don't necessarily think a PR4 site will cost more in December, since it will still give the buyer the same value as a PR4 site did before December. As far as I know, the benefit Google gives a site for an incoming PR4 link has not changed, so an incoming PR4 link is worth the same.

If you want to talk supply and demand, I'd suspect that there are more PR4 sites around now (or in December) than there were before the adjustment, so if anything, the increase in supply would drive the price down, not up.

I agree that they don't ONLY want high PR sites, but the PR is what makes their purchase valuable (whether it's one PR6 ad vs. 20 PR4 ads).

I think we're basically just disagreeing over our speculation of how the TLA market will go over the next few months. If I understand you correctly, you think it will improve (or at least stay fairly level), while I think this is the beginning of a fairly sharp decline which will quickly lead to text link ads being non-marketable.

I don't care too much which way it goes. For your sake, I hope that you're right, but there is also a case to be made that Google's search results would be better in the long run as they continue to move towards squashing the effectiveness / worth of paid links, because they dilute the value of what a link means in Google's algorithm. I predict they will continue in this direction, and that can only be bad news for TLA.

Re: Text Link Ads

Why don't you understand the facts?

The value of a PR4 link will cost more in Dec. then it would have 2 weeks ago and that cost will gradually start increasing as more PR8, PR7, PR6, PR5, PR4, PR3, PR2 sites get penalized. It's a matter of just lowering the bar.

Yes, it will not be exactly the same but it should not be a drastic change after some normalization sets in.

Also, TLA advertisers DO NOT ONLY want high PR sites. I sold more links when I was a 4 and 5 then I did when I was a 6 just because the links cost more.

More links are sold to the mid range because buying 20 links at PR4 is better then buying 1 PR6 link at the same price.

Here's an image.

Re: Text Link Ads

The link in #9 does not appear to work (it requires a TLA login).

Some PR4 blogs who've been recently adjusted may still make money for a while, until the advertisers pull out and don't renew for the next month, but I predict that it will be short lived. Hopefully (for you), I'm wrong.

The point remains, though, that TLA advertisers only really want high PR sites, because that's what they're buying: PageRank for their own site.

Therefore, PR4 sites are not suddenly more valuable because a bunch of PR6's have been demoted, because the end result (affecting the advertiser's PR) is the same no matter how many PR4 or PR6 sites are out there.

In other words, the advertisers will be getting the same amount of value out of a PR4 site now that they always have, so a link from a PR4 site will still have the same value to them.

Re: Text Link Ads

Hah, I just noticed TLA already lowered my PR, probably automatic, BUT if I stay at this current rate I'll make $210/month and possibly $300/month if I sell out like I was doing when I was at this price range earlier this year.

Re: Text Link Ads

To answer your question, Yes I know plenty now.

Re: Text Link Ads

If all TLA publishers are dropped two point the demand for 6s will be higher but so will 4s since there will be less of each.

Re: Text Link Ads

Do you know of anyone with a PR4 blog that's making that kind of money? I recall reading several reports from PR4 site owners complaining that no TLA ads were selling for them.

It doesn't directly correlate to supply and demand, since PR is still PR, and 4 is still worth less than 6 by the same amount. The fact that some 6's are now 4's will not suddenly make advertising on 4's more valuable.

Re: Text Link Ads

I still think that the demand will be adjusted for lower pageranks, since everyone seems to be getting lowered. I don't think $50 is optimistic, $250 is optimistic.

No messages in webmaster tools. And no it's not a re-adjustmant, it's clearly a penalty without notice, which is stupid because I'm sure a lot of people using TLA have no idea what Google is doing or know that they're "gaming" Google search results.

Re: Text Link Ads

But, that being said, are you sure the adjustment was due to a penalty, or maybe it was just a recalculation that resulted in a different number, without a penalty necessarily?

Did you have any messages in you webmaster tools account or anything?

Re: Text Link Ads

Nathan hit the nail on the head in the first comment: Text-Link-Ads customers are paying for page rank, that's why they buy them, and a 4 isn't worth anywhere near a 6.

You might get lucky and have them not catch up to the adjustment for a while, but once they do, I think $50 / month is optimistic.

Re: Text Link Ads

I still see myself as second, weird. So demand for a 4 might be the same as a 6 in a few months, I doubt it but who knows.

Either way $50 a month will pay for my server fees plus a lunches out.

Re: Text Link Ads

you're number six right now on that search for me. bummer... so you don't think the $300 won't fizzle with your lower pr?
