Dan Cameron: Scattered Goals

Is it really that much easier to post to pounce than to your blog?

If so, maybe you need a new phone... :)
  • Dan · 2 years ago
It's not any easier on the phone (I actually don't post through my phone) but it is easier to post through Pownce because I have the pownce client open throughout the day. But that's not the reason for posting through Pownce (or in the past Twitter) I like how they both force me *not* to over think an intentional short post. Too many times a micro-post had turned into a more of a full post which then was deleted and never published.

Yeah, I can see that; I guess for me I'd just rather post everything in one place that allows for short or long posts, and just leave it up to self control instead of externally imposed limits.
  • Dan · 2 years ago
Yeah, I favor freedom so I try to use the most suitable service/product rather than confining myself to one. And we all know your self control doesn't refrain you from short posting, if only you had Twittered or Pownced your recent trip we might have seen those daily posts.

You might be missing the point that I'm not using Pownce as a medium to post on my blog. Only a few people see these posts on my site (the RSS subscribers) the majority see them as what they are.

So while I say Pownce helps me micro-post it's because it's separate from my site and I can easily have that distinction now. And that's why there are absolutely no limitations compared to WP because they're two separate streams.

Again, we have a differing view of "freedom"; mine involves fewer rather than more restrictions.

I post short posts on my blog all the time. I often choose to post longer posts, but I don't regret it at all when I do, and I can always choose (using one system) which one I'd rather do. If I wanted to make short posts about my trip I could have done so just as easily using my blog than if I used pounce or twitter.

Again, I'm not trying to convince you to do anything differently, just explaining why I don't see the need (for myself at least) to post to multiple places / systems.
  • Dan · 2 years ago
It was a joke since most of your recent posts have been short and you're most likely not wanting to segment your messages to another service nor do you sound interested.
  • JaredB · 2 years ago
Exactly. I probably should have put a smiley face after my second comment as well as the first one, since I was only joking about it (based on our recent freedom conversations).
  • Dan · 2 years ago
ha, I thought you were serious.
  • JaredB · 2 years ago
Well, I'm serious and joking at the same time. I would rather just use one system (as I described above).

I just threw in the jab about freedom as a joke, even though that is one reason why I wouldn't want to use Twitter or Pounce for some content and my blog for other parts.

jared likes the freedom of being able to be serious and joking at the same time so we never have any idea what the hell he's saying. plus it gives him the freedom to always go back on something he was wrong about by saying he was "joking" about that part.

this post is a joke...or is it?!?!?!
  • JaredB · 2 years ago
I think it was pretty clear what I was saying, and I didn't go back on anything - I said that I did actually feel that way, but I only worded it that way as a joke.

Sorry if that's too complicated for you; maybe I should just stick to things like talking about excrement, because we all know how hilarious that is.
  • nstryker · 2 years ago
ah c'mon, you have to admit, "I’m serious and joking at the same time" is pretty humorously vague. i was just poking fun at that. as for excrement, well, we'll just have to disagree there because i for one do not find it funny in the least!
  • JaredB · 2 years ago
I admit that it might be confusing; perhaps I could have worded it (the "serious and joking" line) more clearly.

    The sentence in question:
I guess for me I’d just rather post everything in one place that allows for short or long posts, and just leave it up to self control instead of externally imposed limits.

is one that does accurately represent my opinion, but was also intended to be a humorous reference to our recent exchange regarding freedom and restrictions, etc.

In other words, I do "seriously" feel that way, but I only worded it in those terms as a joke. I'll try to make it less vague next time, and add plenty of appropriate emoticons.

if only there was a poomoticon... *+

    Awesome, my first exclusive.
  • JaredB · 2 years ago
If that catches on, I think I'm going to give up on the internet.
  • nstryker · 2 years ago
judging by the other items in that list, i've got a feeling poomoticon is there to stay. 3~&
  • Dan · 2 years ago
I just thought of another one,

    ]-3 ~&

    It's Bullshit
