Do you think the camera will be better on this as compared to the orginal razr I have? Asking because one ad said the razr v3 had a vga cam which I have on mine. And my present phone takes crappy pictures.

I looked at that one too but didn't like it because if you are going to have a phone that big you might as well have a PDA.

You sound so certain but then you say "it's certainly possible", I think it's certainly possible but like I said in my experience I've had no issue, with AT&T; or cingular. Maybe you had some experiences with other providers because you always want to do some out of the ordinary but I surely won't, I wont even tether it to my book because it doesn't support edge.

OK, when you were saying "unlocked" I was thinking you were talking about buying a used phone which was previously locked and had been *unlocked* via one of the hacks that are out there, etc., as opposed to a fresh phone from the manufacturer that had never been locked.

The providers have to configure your account on their networks for your data service to work correctly. They don't have to have (or do anything to) your phone physically, but they will know what phone should be associated with your account, and if it's their policy to only allow their phones on the system, then you will be out of luck if you ask them to change the settings for your account if they think you are using a phone that cannot make use of those features. This probably wouldn't come up much, but it's certainly possible.

It's a brand new phone from the manufacture, it's unopened, so no one had to unlock the phone it's made unlocked. As for the phone's data connection not working the way it should because the provider didn't have their hands on it is wrong from all of my experiences with phones all you need is the settings which I have and is documented well on the web. The current treo that I have is unlocked, just like it came from Palm and it works fine. And even by the slightest chance that it does have complications I can turn around and sell it on eBay for a definite profit.

Yes, but there are situations which are not completely solvable by the user, no matter what they know.

A lot of data connection plans rely on things being correctly configured at both ends, and if there's something that the provider will need to change on their end in order for things to work then you are screwed.

Also, if your phone is defective (or if the unlocker didn't follow the process correctly) or whatever else may cause it to crash prematurely, it will not be under warranty.

yeah, but when do you ever get support from your provider that you couldn't find faster on the internet. I hate being on the phone for an hour with cookie cutter responses.

I thouhgt you were talking about getting one that was unlocked (by a user) on ebay or something - I doubt the manufacturer supports those.

What you definitley won't get support for is anything that has to do with the phone interacting with the service provider, like the data connection not working correctly, etc.

One of the reasons I'm thinking of the t809 is that when EDGE is eventually rolled out down here the phone (and T-Mobile) will support it.

The downside to unlocked phones would be that then you won't get support if something isn't working, or if it breaks you can't take it back anywhere.

No one knows. But I think it will replace the rokr it could very well be the iphone that is rumered. Who knows though?

I would recomend unlocked phones though. They provide more features and they can be resold for a lot more on eBay when you're done with them.

eBay for a lot but cheaper then you could get now.

The only difference is the 1.2 mp camera and I will have to wait and see if it does iTunes, it probably won't but it would be a bonus.

As you can tell I really wanted a high'r res camera.

If you don't care just get a couple silver v3s on eBay. They go for around $200.

Well I just bought it. I was contimplating the SAMSUNG T809 like Jared want's but I saw some comments about even though you can unlock the t-mobile version to work on cingular there might be some bugs, namely the voicemail icon.

Anyways I spent a lot for it and I hopefully will get a lot for my unlocked Treo.

Jared: I say it's $70 because I have the family plan were Sara is an additional 15-20$.

Cingular does not count minutes for data. That's why they charge you for data.

The blackberry I have is with Nextel and the coverage has been very good everywhere I go so far. I had a t-mobile phone plan and it didn't work well in 1000 Oaks.
When I looked at it is was less expensive to get the BB ( $ 150 )vs the treo ( $ 450 ). Not interested in buying another pda then signing up for another contract term.
Hven't looked at the cost of per email ( if nextel has that ) vs unlimited email. I email around 10-15 messages per day. I receive over 20 valid emails per day - Approx.
I already have cell service with cingular separately. This com plan evolved into it's present form. : )
