Splitting Content into Two Columns, e.g. Word Wrap with PHP or CSS + Javascript
Have you been using other iPhones than the one in the store and Johnny's that we used that one night? Just wondering about the data speed, since so far I haven't ever seen any impressive (non-wifi) speed showings.
Of course, I'd expect such an expensive device to have a great browser, so that is as it should be.
I've played with a bunch of other iPhones. One yesterday at work where I loaded my site and it came up in 5-7 seconds which is unheard of on edge. I think the browser says a lot since it can take the data as fast as possible and process it at the same time, I think phones like the curve have a hard time juggling what it's going to process sometimes.
I think that if they offered 3G support (which AT&T does have), it would be a much more tempting purchase.
If you're phone works as fast it's because of processing power which the iPhone has a 600+mhz chip.
Fandango, for example, should have a mobile version of their site that loads in a few seconds (at most) on an EDGE speed connection. Many major companies do (Google, BofA, etc.).
Of course, that does sacrifice some of the visual style of the site, but it makes it much more usable on smaller devices. The iPhone is somewhat unique in that it has a big enough screen and the features to enable viewing "regular" versions of sites like Fandango, but then you get back to the speed issue: 10 seconds is WAY too long for my tastes.
