Dan Cameron: Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 Noise Cancelling Headphones

Always wondered if the noise cancellation really worked.
You can hear voices. Just close by or more distant?
Does the noise cancellation happen automatically when
    you listen to music?

It would great to have them for a plane trip.

The guys at Good Guys would always knock anything
by Bose as way overpriced. Not sure why, could have been
    the commissions were way low.

I had some expensive headphones years ago and it was
great to listen to music with them.

Noise canceling works by sending the opposite wave length at the same time as the other sound, which "cancels" the sound out. So static noise gets canceled out but voices and random noises can't be predicted so they're able to get through. The headphones are cups so I actually can't hear too much when the music or podcasts are going but voices are crisper (not louder) from long distances since all the ambient noise is canceled.

How do think these would do on an elliptical machine (http://www.fitness-equipment-source.com/ellipti...), considering that I break a sweat while I exercise, and move up and down somewhat?

    Thanks.
