$.99 more just to make an already purchased iTunes song a ringtone, gimme a break. I rather just use some mod/hack software to enable it. [Link] (0)

  • can you use a plain mp3 as a ringtone for free?
  • If you use an app to load it. There are already a few out there.
  • Did any of the news include software updates for the iPhone, and if so, do those updates break the current hacks that allow for external apps?
  • That's so Trollie of you.

No iPhone updates until next week when we get over the air iTunes. Until then every user of App Tapp can just not update the firmware or do a hard reset, upgrade teh fw then update App Tapp when the makers update their firmware mod.. that's assuming we'll see a firmware mod and not a software update.
  • I wasn't trolling; just curious. It was a completely relevant question to the discussion. You seem a bit sensitive about it... :)
  • I'm not sensitive, I'm just bored with your troll like curiosity.
  • Considering that you just mentioned (in the comment right before mine) that you can use an unsupported hack to get other ringtones onto the phone, I can't see how my question about the recently announced updates potentially breaking that hack could be considered trolling, unless you're just going to pre-assume that any comment I make that has anything to do with Apple to be trolling, which doesn't seem to make much room for any sort of intelligent conversation about the subject.
  • Just in case, that's why I honestly answered your question.

Maybe I misinterpreted your reoccurring questions about Apple breaking hacks/mods for their devices as a theme to directly prove a point, rather then general curiosity.

It's sort of a irrelevant anyways because if Apple pushed out a firmware fix for their products the modders will just work around whatever changes there are, e.g. AppleTV updates made some mods even easier to install and had better functionality because of the recent updates.
  • I understand. After all, I'm sure even when I'm being nice a little bit of my Apple hatred probably leaks through into any conversation about it. :)

But seriously, I am curious about it. It will be an interesting race to watch, because although it seems right now that the modders are keeping up with them pretty easily (on the aTV + iPhone), there are other more drastic measures that they could take (involving encryption, etc.)

One of the more interesting parts to this back and forth is the question of why they don't do that.
